The Cincinnati Children’s Museum has been featuring The Art of the Brick, the Lego creations by Nathan Sawaya. It was really awesome to see what he was able to produce from just Lego’s.
If you are going to the Cincinnati Children’s Museum, you have to go the the train display. We had a little difficulty getting Charlie out of there! But we appeased him with a little walk through a trolley car.
Caleb was ready for a ride on the Polar Express!
We made out way down to the Holiday Train display…
… and then down to The Art of the Brick!
In the first section, Nathan reproduced famous works of are with Lego bricks.
Two of my favorite paintings are Starry Night:
And American Gothic:
So I was happy to see them both represented in the display.
The next section was sculptures that Nathan had recreated. This was where things REALLY got impressive!
Luke was diligent to guard some of the items!
Luke and Ali tried to take notes along the way.
The rest of the exhibition was just items that Nathan got from various inspirations. It was truly amazing.
Here is a self portrait of Nathan Sawaya:
Even the older kids really enjoyed the exhibit.
Caleb didn’t want to leave, although Mia was already on the move!
A little family picture on our way out the door.
While Nick thinks about a career in the arts.
On your way out of The Art of the Brick, there was a Lego creativity area with tables filled with Lego bricks. Jessie jumped right in to start building!
As did Charlie.
And pretty much everyone else!
Don’t mess with Kelly’s Lego racer!
Before we left, we went up to the Cincinnati Model Railroad Club lookout at the top of the old train station.
Caleb tried his hand at conducting.
But Charlie was very tired after a long day! He was ready to go home, so he sat with Ali for a few minutes.
It was a beautiful day at Cincinnati Children’s Museum.
